Objectives of abdominal liposuction
Abdominal liposuction is a cosmetic surgery procedure in which excess fat is suctioned out and permanently removed.
It allows to reshape the belly. These fatty deposits can be of hereditary origin or consecutive to pregnancies, slimming diets, hormonal variations or even related to aging.
Liposuction of the belly is often the only solution because these fatty deposits can persist despite diets and sports activities.
During the intervention, cannulas are introduced under the skin via small incisions in order to suck the localized fat. It is one of the most frequent aesthetic operations. It can be performed alone or combined with liposuction on other parts of the body.
For example, belly liposuction gives excellent results for love handles.
Who is belly liposuction suitable for?
Belly liposuction is intended for patients with a belly with excess fat , but without significant excess skin or marked muscle relaxation. This intervention is often combined with abdominoplasty.
En revanche, cette intervention ne constituepas une solution aux problèmes liés à l’obésité. Because it targets localized fat, it is indicated for people who are close to their ideal weight.
However, belly liposuction can be beneficial to remove residual fat once dieting goals are achieved . The intervention is possible from the age of 18.
The results of abdominal liposuction are excellent when the skin is supple and elastic, and the fatty deposits localized. Belly liposuction is a surgical procedure that can lead to risks and complications.
A first consultation with your surgeon is essential to know if this intervention is adapted to your particular situation.

Stomach liposuction procedure
Belly liposuction will positively transform your silhouette. The results are final.
Follow your surgeon’s recommendations to optimize the healing process and the quality of the result.
Before the intervention
The first consultation is essential to understand your request and your motivations. A preliminary clinical examination and a precise questioning will allow our specialist to define the most appropriate type of surgery for your case.
Your surgeon will precisely assess the condition of your abdominal wall, skin surface, and volume of fat. A preoperative check-up will be carried out in accordance with the prescriptions.
In some cases, liposuction of the belly takes place on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia , but most often local anesthesia under sedation may be sufficient . The choice of the technique will be made between you, your anesthesiologist and your surgeon.
A consultation with your anesthesiologist will take place a few days before your procedure.
The day of the procedure
Your surgeon will adapt his operating strategy according to your particular case in order to obtain the best possible result.
The surgeon proceeds to the aspiration of fat cells using fine cannulas with rounded ends, introduced through very short incisions.
The fat is removed in a harmonious way . The cannulas wil be chosen as thin as possible to avoid irregularities and obtain optimal skin retraction.
Bleeding and bruising are limited thanks to a vasoconstrictor and anesthetic solution.
The incisions are minimal and hidden in folds, in the pubis on the hairy area, in the umbilicus or on the flank area. Thus the scars are almost invisible from a distance.
At the end of the operation, a compression dressing aimed at limiting post-operative edema is carried out using suitable panties or elastic bands.
The duration of the intervention depends on the quantity of fat to be extracted and the number of locations to be treated. It can vary from 20 minutes to 3 hours (on average 1 to 2 hours).
After the procedure
It should be noted that the recovery time is proportional to the amount of extracted fat.
In the post-operative period, ecchymoses (bruises) and edema (swelling) appear in the treated areas. The pains are variable, but they are generally not very important, thanks to the use of very fine cannulas.
Fatigue can be felt the first few days, especially in the event of significant fat extraction. Normal activity can be resumed 2 to 10 days after the intervention, again depending on the importance of the liposuction and the type of professional activity.
The bruises resorb within 10 to 20 days after the operation. Wearing an elastic compression garment is recommended for 2 to 4 weeks. A resumption of sports activity can be expected 3 weeks after the operation.
The operated areas should not be exposed to the sun or UV rays for at least 3 weeks. Manual lymphatic drainage from the first days, followed by drainage by Endermologie® will accelerate the resorption of edema and optimize healing.
The result will begin to appear after 3 weeks, after resorption of the edema. It will take approximately 3 to 6 months for the skin to adapt completely on the new shape of the body.
The final result can be assessed 6 months after the intervention. it generally gives upmost satisfaction when the indication has been carefully established. Excess fat is permanently removed and the skin has smoothly retracted to its new position.
Liposuction of the belly thus offers a spectacular and definitive correction of excess fat. The goal of this surgery is to bring an improvement and not to achieve perfection. If your wishes are realistic, the result should give you great satisfaction.
