BREAST RECONSTRUCTION SURGERY

Breast reconstruction Surgery is as much reparatory as it is aesthetic. When the ablation of the breast results from cancer, its reconstruction is done generally no sooner than a year after so that complementary treatments are finished.

Diverse techniques can be used. If abundant and supple skin is still present, the placement of an implant might suffice to restore the curve of the breast. If the skin is tight and not very elastic, one will use pedicled or free skin flaps to reconstruct the breast.

Due to the recent progresses of microsurgery, it is now possible to use free skin flaps from the buttocks (SGAP-flap) or from the abdomen (DIEP-flap). All of this can be done without any muscular damage to the sites of removal. The breast reconstructed in this manner will have a natural shape and the best aesthetic and functional results.

The reconstruction of the nipple area is performed about six months after the reconstruction. Different techniques may be used such as dermo-pigmentation, and they will produce very natural-looking results.

After a very detailed examination, your surgeon will discuss with you the method most suitable for you.

Post-Operative Effects and Results

Post-operative effects vary a great deal in function of the chosen technique. If the reconstruction has included a microsurgical period, the procedure takes longer but the post operative period is on the other hand much faster.

The reconstruction of a breast brings an undeniable physical and psychological benefit, and the result is very satisfactory on the morphology level.
