Objectives of Facial Lipofilling
Facial lipostructure, also known as lipofilling, is a surgical technique involving autologous fat transfer (fat grafting).
This surgical intervention allows for the addition of volume to localized areas of the face, while also correcting certain facial imperfections to restore fullness and a harmonious, more youthful appearance.

The autografting of fat cells by reinjecting fat harvested from your own body offers permanent and highly satisfactory results. This treatment is often preferred for natural and long-lasting outcomes.
It is common to combine this procedure with facial surgery such as a facelift or blepharoplasty to improve facial harmony and provide a natural result.
Advances in preparation techniques and micro-injections of autologous fat allow for the specific and contemporary treatment of all facial concerns: restoration of volume (cheekbones, temples, eyelids, forehead, jawlines, chin, cheeks), dark circles, lips, wrinkles, fine lines, and skin quality thanks to tissue regeneration induced by stem cells.
This innovative treatment effectively targets problematic areas. The full facial treatment is personalized for each patient, ensuring optimal results.
Who is Lipofilling for?
Lipofilling is an aesthetic surgery intended for individuals experiencing sagging of facial tissues, resulting in a notable loss of volume.
Since it involves a genuine graft of living cells, and provided the technique is sound and effective, the grafted cells will remain alive within the body. This makes lipofilling a permanent surgery, as the grafted fat cells will live as long as the surrounding tissues.

It is important to note that the reinjected fat that has successfully grafted is sensitive to weight fluctuations. Consequently, in the event of weight loss or gain, the areas that received lipofilling will decrease or increase in volume.
Lipofilling is a surgery that can lead to complications. In all cases, an initial consultation with your doctor is essential to determine if this procedure is suitable for your specific situation.
The Lipofilling Procedure
Lipofilling will positively transform the harmony of your face. The results are definitive. Follow your surgeon’s recommendations to optimize the healing process and the quality of the result.
Before the intervention
The first consultation is essential to understand your request and your motivations. It is also an opportunity for your doctor to carefully analyze your facial anatomy to ensure the procedure will enhance your face and provide genuine rejuvenation.
A pre-operative health check will be carried out to verify the absence of contraindications.
Anesthesia
In principle, lipofilling is performed under local anesthesia with sedation. However, in some cases, a general anaesthesia is preferred. The choice of the technique will be made between you, your anesthesiologist and your surgeon.
A consultation with your anesthesiologist will take place a few days before your procedure.
The day of the procedure
The technique chosen by your aesthetic doctor will vary depending on the identified defects and the strategy selected to correct them.
The first stage of the procedure involves harvesting fat from a defined site using a non-traumatic micro-cannula. Generally, the surgeon will choose a discreet area where there is a reserve, or even an excess, of fatty tissue. This first phase is called liposuction.
The fat is centrifuged to collect only the fat cells (adipocytes).
The fat is then reinjected into the treatment area of your face through 1 mm micro-incisions (camouflaged) using a micro-cannula. These injections increase volume and fill local tissues, allowing for tissue tightening.
The duration of the procedure depends on the amount of fat to be reinjected and the number of locations to be treated. It can vary from 30 minutes to 2 hours for isolated lipostructure.
After the procedure
The after-effects of facial lipofilling are not very painful.
Generally, tissue swelling (edema) appears during the 48 hours following the procedure in both the harvested and injected areas, and will typically take 5 to 15 days to be completely resolved.
Bruising (ecchymosis) appears within the first few hours in the fat reinjection areas: it subsides within 10 to 20 days after the procedure.
A few days of social and professional downtime should be expected due to the presence of edema and bruising, but if this does not inconvenience the patient, a return to activities is possible after 3 days.
Sun exposure is discouraged during the first month to avoid permanent pigmentation.
Results
The result is appreciable after a period of three to six months. It is most often satisfactory whenever the indication and technique have been correct: depressions are generally filled and volumes restored.
It must be taken into account that, even with an irreproachable technique and the expertise of your surgeon, there is a variable difference of 20 to 40% between the amount of fat reinjected and the amount of graft take, due to the fact that part of the reinjected fat will be absorbed.
Naturally, your surgeon will have taken this into account when evaluating the fat reinjection. The goal of this surgery is to bring an improvement and not to achieve perfection. If your wishes are realistic, the result should give you great satisfaction.
