Objectives of abdominal lipoaspiration
Abdominal lipoaspiration, also known as abdominal liposuction, is a cosmetic surgical procedure that permanently removes, by suction, excess fat cells in the abdominal area in men or women.

It reshapes the abdomen. These fat deposits may be hereditary or may result from pregnancies, weight-loss diets, hormonal variations, or ageing.
Abdominal lipoaspiration is sometimes the only solution, as these fat deposits can persist despite dieting and physical activity.
The liposuction procedure is straightforward and involves inserting cannulas under the skin through small incisions to suction out localized fat. It is one of the most common cosmetic procedures and can be performed on its own or combined with lipoaspiration of other areas of the body.
In addition, abdominal liposuction delivers excellent results for love handles.
Who is abdominal liposuction for?
Abdominal lipoaspiration is intended for patients with excess abdominal fat, without significant excess skin or marked muscle laxity. If this is the case, it may be necessary to combine this procedure with an abdominoplasty.

This procedure is not intended for overweight or obese individuals, as it is not a weight-loss solution. Lipoaspiration is indicated when the patient is close to their ideal weight, as it only removes localized fat deposits known as lipomeres.
However, abdominal lipoaspiration can be beneficial once the goals of a weight-loss diet have been achieved to remove residual fat. The procedure is possible from the age of 18.
The results of abdominal liposuction are excellent when the skin is supple and elastic, and when fat deposits are localized rather than “diffuse”. Abdominal lipoaspiration is a surgical procedure that may involve risks and complications.
A first consultation with your surgeon is essential to know if this intervention is adapted to your particular situation.
How abdominal lipoaspiration is performed
Abdominal lipoaspiration will positively transform your silhouette. The results are permanent.
Follow your surgeon’s recommendations to optimize the healing process and the quality of the result.
Before the intervention
The first consultation is essential to understand your request and your motivations. A preliminary clinical examination and a precise questioning will allow our specialist to define the most appropriate type of surgery for your case.
Your surgeon will precisely assess the condition of your abdomen: abdominal wall, skin surface, and fat volume. A preoperative check-up will be carried out in accordance with the prescriptions.
Anesthesia
In some cases, abdominal lipoaspiration is performed as an outpatient procedure under general anaesthesia, but most often local anaesthesia with sedation is sufficient. The choice of the technique will be made between you, your anesthesiologist and your surgeon.
A consultation with your anesthesiologist will take place a few days before your procedure.
The day of the procedure
Your surgeon will adapt his operating strategy according to your particular case in order to obtain the best possible result.
The surgeon performs the suctioning of fat cells using fine, rounded-tip cannulas inserted into the areas to be treated through discreet, very short incisions.
Deep fat is removed in a harmonious manner. The cannulas used should always be as fine as possible to avoid irregularities and achieve the best possible skin retraction.
Bleeding and bruising are limited thanks to an infiltration of the area to be suctioned with a vasoconstrictive and anesthetic solution.
The incisions are minimal and concealed in folds, in the pubic hair-bearing area, in the navel, or in the flank region. As a result, the scars are virtually invisible from a distance.
At the end of the procedure, a shaping compression to limit post-operative oedema is most often applied using a suitable panty garment or elastic bandages.
The duration of the procedure depends on the amount of fat to be extracted and the number of areas to be treated. It can vary from 20 minutes to 3 hours (averaging 1 to 2 hours).
After the procedure
Please note that the time required to recover and to get over lipoaspiration is proportional to the amount of fat removed.
After the procedure, bruising and oedema (swelling) appear in the treated areas. Pain varies, but is generally mild, thanks to the use of very fine cannulas.
Fatigue may be felt during the first few days, especially when a large amount of fat has been removed. Normal activity can be resumed 2 to 10 days after the procedure, depending on the extent of the lipoaspiration and the type of professional activity.
Bruising resolves within 10 to 20 days after the procedure. Wearing an elastic compression garment is recommended for 2 to 4 weeks. You may plan to resume sports activity 3 weeks after the procedure.
The operated areas should not be exposed to the sun or UV rays for at least 3 weeks. Manual lymphatic drainage from the first days, followed by drainage by Endermologie® will accelerate the resorption of edema and optimize healing.
Results
Only after 3 weeks, and once this oedema has subsided, will the result begin to appear. It will take approximately 3 to 6 months for the skin to adapt completely on the new shape of the body.
The final result can be assessed within 6 months after the procedure and is most often satisfactory, provided that the indication and technique were correct: lipoaspiration will have permanently eliminated localized excess fat while producing appreciable skin retraction.
Abdominal lipoaspiration therefore offers a radical and permanent correction of excess fat. The goal of this surgery is to bring an improvement and not to achieve perfection. If your wishes are realistic, the result should give you great satisfaction.

Around the surgery
The first consultation
The first appointment is essential to identify your needs and expectations. Our specialists will take all the necessary time to understand your demand and offer you the best advice.
Anesthesia
Sensitive to the potentially traumatic dimension of any operation, Laclinic's doctors pay close attention to pain management to make the operation as comfortable and safe as possible.
Associated treatments
Liposuction of the belly can be combined with other procedures if necessary, such as abdominoplasty if the skin is sagging , or lipofilling aimed at reshaping the shapes of the body for a more harmonious and proportionate silhouette.
Buttock liposuction
To restore well-defined, beautifully contoured buttocks, buttock liposuction is the ideal surgical procedure.
The surgical procedure involves removing excess fat from the buttocks and surrounding areas (hips, saddlebags). This procedure allows for the permanent suctioning of fatty cell deposits.
