History of a renovation

The original building was completed at the end of the 19th century in a magnificent location overlooking Lake Geneva. It was a gynaecology and obstetrics clinic till the end of the First World War, thereafter serving as medico-social establishment.

The challenges of renovating was blending a contemporary design and architecture typical of the beginning of the 20th century and modernising the interior while maintaining the unique and prestine charm of the exterior facade.

The Swiss architect, Mathias Jenny , from Vevey, had accomplished this remarkable feat in collaboration with Bureau Zed from Zurich. Together they were responsible for the corporate design of the establishment. Hannes Wettstein, an interior design architect and director of the Bureau Zed is a reference for Swiss design. Being a professor at the Ecole Polytechnique Federale in Zurich and at the Ecole des Arts Appliques of Karlsruhe, Germany, he is also a cutting edge contemporary designer who collaborates with Cassina or Artemide of Italy. He is also famous for having created the interior architecture of the Hyatt Hotel on the Postdamerplatz in Berlin with the collaboration of the Spanish architect, Raphael Moneo. He had designed the interior of the building whilst the stunning exterior façade, typical of the architecture of the beginning of the 20th century, was restored in collaboration with the project manager.
