MAKE YOUR WRINKLES DISAPPEAR WITH BOTOX

Botulinum toxin is an active substance (a natural protein obtained from a bacterium called Clostridium Botulinum) which can clearly reduce wrinkles without requiring surgery. Because of its therapeutic effect, this protein has been used in aesthetic medicine under the name of Botox ® or Vistabel ® for many years.

How Botox® (or Vistabel®) works

Botox ® works on the neuromuscular connections. It temporarily halts the transmission of the nerve impulse to the muscles and thus calms the movements of the muscles, which clearly reduces wrinkles. The smoothing effect starts from the first week after the treatment and carries on for four to six months.

Consultation and treatment

Wrinkles are treated on an outpatient basis. The doctor uses a fine needle to inject the Botox ® very precisely into the muscular areas involved. The injection and the prior explanatory interview usually take around half an hour. The patient can return to his or her normal activities immediately afterwards. The treatment can be repeated once the effect starts to fade. However the injections must not be repeated more than once every 3 months.

Side effects and contra-indications

There has been worldwide research into botulinum toxin for medical purposes for more than 20 years, so Botox® offers proven effectiveness and tolerance.

Any adverse effects may be linked either to the substance itself or to the injection technique. Muscle weakening is one of the desired parts of the anti-wrinkle treatment. But the substance’s effect can sometimes stretch to areas which we do not wish to treat and cause undesired muscle weakness (in the eyelids, for example). Other temporary side effects have also been observed in 1 to 10% of cases (headaches, red blotches or oedemas at the injection site, dizziness, nausea, etc.)

The treatment must always be provided by trained, experienced specialist doctors and a prior consultation is essential. A follow-up meeting (free of charge) is recommended within a fortnight.
