Objectives of Breast Reduction
Breast reduction surgery is a very common procedure that allows for a reduction in breast volume.
Indeed, breast hypertrophy is defined by an excessively large breast volume, particularly in relation to the patient’s body shape. This excess volume is generally associated with breast sagging (breast ptosis) and sometimes a certain degree of asymmetry.

The procedure involves removing excess breast tissue. A volume in harmony with the patient’s silhouette and in line with her desires is retained. This residual breast volume is lifted, concentrated, and reshaped. The breasts regain a rejuvenated contour and a firmer appearance.
The patient satisfaction rate after this operation is very high, with benefits observed in terms of weight balance, as well as social and psychological aspects.
Who is breast reduction for?
Breast reduction will positively transform your silhouette and alleviate physical and functional discomforts such as back, neck, and shoulder pain, difficulties with sports activities, and clothing discomfort.

Breast reduction allows patients to regain a figure in harmony with their silhouette and to reclaim the image of breasts often considered bothersome, cumbersome, and not aligned with the patient’s personality.
This procedure can benefit any adult patient aged 18 or older.
Breast reduction is a surgical procedure that may involve risks and complications. A first consultation with your surgeon is essential to know if this intervention is adapted to your particular situation.
Before and after pictures
Breast Reduction Procedure
A breast reduction mammoplasty will positively transform the harmony of your silhouette. Follow your surgeon’s recommendations to optimize the healing process and the quality of the result.
Before the intervention
The initial consultation is crucial for understanding your request and motivations. Depending on your morphology and your anatomy, your surgeon will determine his operating strategy.
During this consultation, it will be important to carefully assess the quality of the skin and glandular tissue.
The surgeon will take all necessary anatomical measurements to tailor the procedure and the amount of breast volume to be removed to your wishes, and simultaneously correct any existing breast asymmetry in shape or volume.
A preoperative check-up will be carried out in accordance with the prescriptions.
Anesthesia
In some cases, breast reduction mammoplasty can be performed as an outpatient procedure under either general anesthesia or local anesthesia with deep sedation. Most often, a 24-hour stay in the clinic is recommended. The choice of the technique will be made between you, your anesthesiologist and your surgeon.
A consultation with your anesthesiologist will take place a few days before your procedure.
The day of the procedure
Your surgeon will adapt his operating strategy according to your particular case in order to obtain the best possible result.
Once the excess glandular tissue is removed, the remaining gland is repositioned, and the skin envelope is redraped.
The areola and nipple are also repositioned. An areolar incision is combined with a vertical incision and a horizontal scar hidden in the inframammary fold (inverted T-scar).
At the end of the procedure, a compression dressing is applied, which is removed by the surgeon after 24 hours and replaced with a supportive sports bra. The procedure generally lasts between 2 and 3 hours.
After the procedure
Post-operative recovery is generally not very painful, managed with analgesics. Swelling (edema) and bruising (ecchymosis) of the breasts, as well as discomfort when raising the arms, are frequently observed; these usually resolve within two to three weeks.
A rest period of several days is necessary, and it is recommended to avoid sports activities for at least 3 weeks. Silicone dressings will protect the scars for 3 to 4 months to improve their quality.
A sports bra must be worn for 3 weeks day and night, then only at night for the following 3 weeks. Manual lymphatic drainage from the first few days, followed by Endermologie® drainage, is recommended to accelerate edema resolution and optimize healing.
Results
Optimal results are seen 2 to 3 months after the procedure, allowing time for swelling to subside and all breast tissues to adapt to the new volume.
The operated breast remains natural, sensitive to hormonal changes and weight fluctuations. Breastfeeding remains possible after the procedure.
The definitive result can be appreciated one year after the procedure.
The breasts then most often have a harmonious, symmetrical, or very nearly symmetrical, and natural contour.
The goal of this surgery is to bring an improvement and not to achieve perfection. If your wishes are realistic, the result should give you great satisfaction.
