Objectives of labiaplasty
Labiaplasty, sometimes referred to as nymphoplasty, is a surgical procedure aimed at reducing the size of the labia minora and correcting any major asymmetry, while also addressing, if necessary, the reduction of the anterior extensions on either side of the clitoris.

The objective is to achieve a harmonious vulva with the size of the labia minora in proportion to that of the labia majora and the overall volume of the vulva.
Depending on the indications, this procedure may sometimes be accompanied by a reduction of the labia majora if they appear too prominent due to excess skin or fat; conversely, the surgeon may perform lipofilling of the labia majora if they are too small or virtually non-existent.
Who is labiaplasty for?
Labiaplasty is intended for patients presenting with hypertrophy of the labia minora who are bothered by this appearance, which can have social, sexual, and psychological impacts.

Labia minora hypertrophy is defined by an excessive size of the labia minora compared to the labia majora. In the upright position, the labia minora protrude from the vulval slit, causing patients to refer to their labia minora as “hanging”.
Hypertrophy is most often bilateral, maintaining the physiological asymmetry of the labia minora (where the left is naturally larger than the right); however, it can also be unilateral.
Sometimes, the hypertrophy extends forward, creating folds on either side of the clitoris. Hypertrophy of the labia minora often causes discomfort when wearing tight jeans, thongs or tight-fitting swimsuits, or when taking part in certain sports (cycling, horse-riding, climbing). Discomfort during intercourse is variable, less physical (interposition of the labia minora during penetration) than psychological (embarrassment at being naked in front of a partner).
This appearance is most often seen at puberty (primary juvenile hypertrophy), but can also occur after childbirth or at menopause (secondary hypertrophy due to vulvoptosis or false hypertrophy, which is not treated in the same way as classic hypertrophy). Nymphoplasty can be performed on adults of any age.
The procedure will have no negative long-term consequences on sexual intercourse or childbirth.
Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that may involve risks and complications. A first consultation with your surgeon is essential to know if this intervention is adapted to your particular situation.
The labiaplasty procedure
Labiaplasty will positively transform your intimacy. The results are definitive.
Follow your surgeon’s recommendations to optimize the healing process and the quality of the result.
Before the intervention
The first consultation is essential to understand your request and your motivations. A preliminary clinical examination and a precise questioning will allow our specialist to define the most appropriate type of surgery for your case.
Your surgeon will take all the necessary time to understand your concerns and determine the level of correction required for the labia minora.
They will also check if the size of the labia majora can be improved to cover the labia minora, achieving a harmonious and rejuvenated appearance of the vulva. A preoperative check-up will be carried out in accordance with the prescriptions.
Anesthesia
The choice of technique will be decided between you, your anesthesiologist, and your surgeon.
A consultation with your anesthesiologist will take place a few days before your surgery.
The day of the procedure
Your surgeon will adapt his operating strategy according to your particular case in order to obtain the best possible result. The surgeon will perform a resection of the excess labial mucosa while preserving the initial shape of the labia minora.
The surgeon makes an incision from top to bottom, and the trimmed mucosal edges are then sutured with absorbable thread. This so-called “longitudinal” technique has the advantage of being safe and adaptable.
It allows for the treatment of not only labia minora hypertrophy but also the anterior extension if necessary, and reduces the frequently associated hyperpigmentation.
Scars on the labia minora are invisible in the long term. At the end of the procedure, a light dressing is placed in a protective slip.
Depending on the surgeon and the clinical case, the procedure can last from 30 to 60 minutes.
After the procedure
Reduction nymphoplasty is a painless procedure. The post-operative period is generally painless, requiring only simple analgesics.
Minimal bleeding lasts 2 to 3 days. Swelling and bruising are common, and gradually diminish over a fortnight.
Showering is permitted the day after the procedure, and rigorous genital hygiene is recommended after each urination.
Wear loose-fitting clothing until the healing process is complete. Socio-professional activities can be resumed a few days after the operation, and sexual and sporting activities after 4 weeks.
Results
The final result, already clearly visible after one month, can be appreciated between 3 and 6 months after the operation, when the post-operative oedema has disappeared. Scars fade in 1 to 2 months.
Reduction labiaplasty is a reliable and effective procedure with significant aesthetic, functional, and psychological benefits for patients.
The goal of this surgery is to bring an improvement and not to achieve perfection. If your wishes are realistic, the result should give you great satisfaction.
