A Tooth That Grows… and Bothers
Pain at the back of the mouth, swollen gums, difficulty chewing or opening your mouth? It could be your wisdom tooth starting to make itself known.
For some, it goes unnoticed. For others, it becomes a real source of discomfort or pain. When this is the case, extraction is often the best solution.
At the dental office of Laclinic-Montreux, we guide you step by step for an extraction that is controlled, gentle, and stress-free, always prioritizing your comfort and safety.
Why Extract the Wisdom Tooth?
Not all wisdom teeth cause problems. But in some cases, their position, orientation, or lack of space in the jaw leads to complications:
- Pain or pressure in the jaw
- Inflammation or infection of the gum (pericoronitis)
- Cavities on the wisdom tooth or neighboring molar
- Cyst or bone resorption
- Orthodontic appliance to protect
An X-ray allows for a quick assessment of the situation.
If extraction is necessary, it’s better not to wait for severe pain to develop.
A Controlled and Secure Procedure
Wisdom tooth extraction can be simple or more complex, depending on its position (straight, tilted, impacted in the bone…).
We perform a complete clinical and radiological assessment before any decision.
The procedure:
- Powerful local anesthesia for painless treatment
Controlled opening if necessary - Gentle removal of the tooth
- Sutures if needed
- Precise post-operative advice
In the most complex cases, surgery under sedation or general anesthesia may be considered with a partner specialist.
Is It Painful?
The procedure itself is not painful thanks to well-managed anesthesia.
After the treatment, mild pain or swelling may occur for 2 to 3 days, but they are easily controlled with pain relievers and rest.
Good post-operative follow-up allows you to recover quickly and peacefully.
At What Age Should It Be Considered?
The majority of extractions take place between 16 and 25 years old, when wisdom teeth finish their development.
The earlier the intervention (before the roots are fully formed), the simpler it is and the faster the recovery.
Fees and Coverage
Our care is provided according to the SSO tariff, and a clear quote is always offered to you after the assessment.
In some cases, your health insurance may cover all or part of the procedure if a pathology is confirmed (infection, cyst, etc.).
