Breast implant surgery is recommended in particular for small breasts, also corrects insufficient development of the mammary gland, and can offset a loss of volume following breast feeding, weight loss, or hormonal disturbances. It is possible to correct asymmetry or sagging breasts during the same operation, to achieve an overall youthful look.

The breast plastic surgery takes place under deep sedation and local anaesthetic, and lasts 1–1.5 hours depending on the technique chosen at the first consultation with the surgeon. There is a short period of hospitalisation with discharge on the same day, on an outpatient basis, or the following day

The breasts will take a harmonious, natural shape after three months but the final result will be visible after a year. To prevent any deterioration of the result, experts of breast surgery clinics recommend avoiding pregnancy for one year following the procedure. Nonetheless, implants can be inserted 3–6 months after stopping breastfeeding.

Breast augmentation can be combined with a breast lift, breast reduction or inverted nipple correction procedure, or lipostructure to even out the new volumes with, for example, harmonisation of the space between the breasts.
